1 May FOSS v AVCC
Our usual season curtain raiser…and played on the plateau of Amesbury, with the charms of the usual biting wind even though the evening was largely sunny and mild.
Certainly at 10C - much warmer than the 3-5C we are used to starting our fixtures with.
If I was to preface this match by saying we averaged 2 people at nets in the winter, it would help you understand we might have looked “under-cooked” in our first game.
We batted first and finished our innings on 88-7…our lowest 20/20 score for nearly 5 years.
Simon Campbell scored 51 of these (not out) in a fine innings bashing the ball around the ground (at least leg side and over the top as usual). Extras next scored at 10 and Graham was 5 not out at the end. Not much more to report of note, other than a need for the team to spend more time at the crease in the near future.
FOSS got the runs in just over 13 overs with no alarms for 89-3 (apart from 4 dropped catches by us).
The highlights of their innings were some fine bowling by Rowan Morrison (fast and hostile) for 2-1-8 and 2 well deserved wickets for Ollie Lishman 2-2-5. Well done guys. The youth shone.
Nigel Rowe, Matt Dancey, Julian Lishman, and Graham all bowled solidly but we just did not have enough to defend.
lessons learnt….nets do help. We should do them more often :)
