AVCC v Avebury
AVCC took the field in what has become unfortunately our trademark (without 11 cricketers).
Our captain Angus Harley arriving an hour late, so Dudley pulled rank/age and managed to persuade their captain he would like to bat first.
A decision he was regretting a couple of overs later after some great bowling from Jamie Corden, Harry Flack and Michael Rae (and some very dodging running. Dudley claims he ran someone out) had removed Avebury's top order.
Unfortunately their captain Dom Fry and Safa entered the fray to smash our bowling all around the park, not helped by some pretty average fielding at point from Mr Perrin and left us chasing 171 from 15 eight ball overs.
Bowling figures:
Corden: 3-0-27
Rae: 3-2-28
Flack: 3-3-24
Jones: 3-2-31
Borthwick: 1-0-15
Morrison: 2-0-38
We opened our batting effort reasonably well with Simon Borthwick hitting a couple of fours, but wickets fell at regular intervals until Angus (our late arriving captain) and Hugh Morrison decided to apply for the vacant number 3 spot in the English middle order and demonstrate their defensive ability to the ECB finishing 15 and 16 not out respectively, off a combined 61 balls!
We finished short on 97 for 5 (Harry Flack joining the primary club along the way) but that shouldn't detract from a solid all round display.
Special mention goes to Nick Westlake-Toms who donned the keepers gloves at late notice and batted very well for his 19.
We returned to the Ship for a pint and some food (very tasty indeed) and thanks to a certain Mr Newlands not being present had a very harmonious end to the day watching Wales lose and discussing the EU referendum.
