  • Burbage vs AVCC
    22 June 2014

On a wonderfully hot summers day we took on the mighty Burbage. I'm told they have a professional Kiwi who's played Test cricket, fortunately he wasn't selected. Their average age was still around half ours so we started the game with some trepidation. Despite the gap in relative fitness levels (and waist lines) we put up a good fight but, alas, came up short.

  • AVCC v All Cannings
    11 June 2014

This T20 game followed a familiar pattern for readers who have bothered ploughing through the previous 5 matches. AVCC excelled temporarily in the field and then found we had a few too many runs to chase. Should we try and bat first and change a habit? Anyway, we pulled up 34 runs shy of All Cannings 137 off 20, bowled out in the final over.

Collingbourne vs AVCC report

Near miss at Collingbourne in a good-natured tussle over 20 overs.

The hosts posted 108 for 5 off their 20.  Particularly good spells from Paddy Bond 4 overs for 15 (welcome back, despite a traitorous move to Winterbourne) and Jon (the Wolf) Wolverson 4 for 16.  Alex Brown picked up a wicket in his 2 overs for 12, but the pick was new blood Ieuan (yes, he's a bit Welsh) Pearn (Enford) 3 overs 2 for 9.  We'd like to see more of him.  Ben Jones kept tidily behind the stumps.  Credit to Alex Hitchin (a Gent boyfriend, we think) and Nav (army hot-shotess) for heeding a late call up.

Five and half an over was too much however as Collingbourne's bowling & fielding proved a couple of grades above their batting.  Despite some good shots from the Wolf, Alex & Ieuan we came up short all out for 87 in the 19th.  Chasing is difficult with tight bowling and fielding and we need to learn to tip and run sometimes to keep the strike rotating.  Our prime stroke maker, Dudley was undone by one that turned three feet, allegedly.

We concluded there's always next time, in the bar afterwards over pints and cheesy chips.
