Wilcott v AVCC
Local derby goes the wrong way in a tight match.
Another hot day sunny day (this is what it must be like living in Australia) saw AVCC take on Wilcot in a local(ish) derby. Once again the match was reduced to 35 overs in deference to those of us on the wrong side of 40. Tim Law pulled out with flu (or, according to Mrs Law, a cold) just before the match but had brought his son Rory as replacement which turned out rather well, more on that later.
AVCC batted first, lead from the front by Joe Wookey who scored a stylish 84. Just as well because the next highest scores were Tim Gent (14) and Stuart Logan (10). Wilcot bowled tightly as a total of 7 extras will testify, and our total of 136 looked a little light.
Wilcot started strongly but AVCC stuck to the task and gradually reigned them in with a collective bowling effort. Rory Law bowled particularly well with his leg-breaks and would have added more wickets to the one he got had the ball not dropped between fielders so often. Peter Williams (2 for 15) and Rory Plank (2 for 14), plus a few others getting in on the act, pushed the match into the last over with only 2 wickets remaining, but Wilcot prevailed (just).
I feel confident we'll get our revenge next year.
